Pimp My Art Shack

This is the art shack at camp that was just a blank building....till I arrived. How can you have an art shack without any art on it? You cant so me and my group fixed that. The swirly designs in the red and on the Y symbol are Maori designs. They are EVERYWHERE in NZ. Its really cool. The red one I did was kinda weak because I hadnt really practiced the style yet so it looks a little rough. But Ill fix that before I leave. The one I did in the YMCA symbol is pretty clean if I do say so myself. "Sweet As" is what kiwis would say, "sweet as bro!". Then I made my group add some flavor to it. One girl got really into it because she has been watching too much TV and was throwing paint on the wall and letting drip everywhere! She had a blast and it came out kinda cool HA! Im going to do a little bit more to it before i bouce so Ill keep you posted.

Summer Christmas

Hey fam! So Christmas 2012 was one to remember haha....kinda. t was the first time I was away from you all. not very fun. Although being here put things into perspective a little bit. I was here at camp on Christmas. For a while I thought I would be spending it alone in my room because everyone including Splinter (my Irish travel buddy)had gone off to spend Christmas with close friends and family. So I was sitting here and almost sulked the day away. But then I stopped and realized im better than that So I blasted "Give Love at Christmas" the Temptations Christmas album and cleaned my room a bit....a small bit, and got into the spirit again. Christmas is my favorite holiday by far. It is my favorite not because of the delicious delicious Gumbo we eat every year, but because of all of the AWESOME memories that come with it. My Christmases growing up were absolutely perfect. The Tahoe trips! Lets talk about the Tahoe trips for a minute shall we. Skiing, snow fights (sorry LJ for busting your nose but it was dads fault for using you as a shield), sledding, Dad hitting Anthony with snow and making him slide all the way down the driveway, snowmen, long car ride up listening to Barry White, and Luther V's Christmas album over and over. "Mistletoe Jam" was an awesome song....the first 200 time we heard it haha! Ice skating, big game of clue at the table wit everyone, hide and seek in the dark, Grandpas eggs, getting out of school early,....just everything. Awesome. Yea Christmas is definitely my favorite holiday. NZ just isnt up to speed. Mine was still fun though. Some of my boss's friends came over and we had a BBQ. It was cool.

New Green-Land (haha see what I did there! so clever)

So here are more pics of the country. The top 4 are more from our Castlepoint trip. I like the one of me sitting off in the distance...pretty slick. the bottom 7 are from when i went on a bike ride from camp so all the greenery you see surrounds me where i work. I have never seen so much green land in my life Humbolt county and Oregon have nothing on this place. All of their animals are grass fed, as you can see there is no shortage, so they get their lawns mowed while feeding there farm. Very resourceful haha! New Zealand has a ridiculous amount of sheep! I think the sheep outnumber the people by around 10 million or something crazy like that. Its so bad that they made a horror movie about the sheep rebelling and eating everyone. If you look closely at one of the pics of the hillside you can see all the sheep dotted everywhere. It is like that EVERYWHERE! From afar it looks like the hills have pimples or maggots all over it.........sorry that was gross but that was for all my visual readers. So with all the sheep you ca imagine what meat is for sale at every restaurant, every grocery store AND at McDeezies....lamb. It tastes amazing. So hopefully those pics give you guys a good feel of what the North Island of New Zealand looks like.

Finally Did It!

So you know how Ive been talking about going to New Zealand for a looong time?...Well I finally did it! Best decision of my life. The people are great. All the locals are kind and welcoming. The Maori people are the coolest. There accent is my favorite so far. The scenery is definitely one the best. The New Zealand sky doesnt want to stay the same color so the sunsets and the cloud formations are incredible.

For work Im at the YMCA. I am working at their outdoor camp called Camp Kaitoke. So what we do is instruct schools and any other groups that come for the week on different outdoor activities such as abseiling, kayaking, archery, outdoor cooking, low ropes course, challenge course, air rifles, mountain biking and few other things. So Im staying pretty busy. They let me paint the art shack so now a piece of me will always be here on the north island of New Zealand which is pretty cool. We traveled to Castlepoint where we camped out on the beach and kayak surfed! Crazy fun! Yes yes yes i wore a life jacket. I made Splinter tighten the straps as tight as they would go. Then after I came out the water Splinter and I climbed to the top of the mountain barefoot which hurt like hell but once we got to the top it was all worth it because the view was unreal. So thats pretty much all Ive done in a nutshell thus far but trust there will be much more to come!
